Some can do this and some it takes additional means to acheive this. Usually when you skin is at the leIast somewhat fairer it is easier to see improvement. I had used papaya soap and papaya kojic soap and they exfoliated well, but my face had darkened over the years and became much darker than the rest of me. So, I presonally needed to use a skin lightener along with an exfoliator.

Some homemade remedies that have worked for people is using sandal wood powder mixed with warm coconut oil, tumeric, a little lemon juice, and buttermilk (contains lactic acid naturally.

KB50MJ what is your original complexion? Lactic acid peels has propertied of help removing tans and lightening the skin as a mild lightener, it can even discoloration of skin too. This can be achieved with a few series of peels, ans it's moisturizing and an overall gentle acid.

This is my original color: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I'm currently using this exfoliating soap: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

And just recently it started to make my skin VERY dry. To the point where it was getting tender. So I stoped using it for today, and I am using lots of moisturizers.

KB50MJ can you tell me which moisturizers are yiu using?
When my face becomes dry from exfoliating this is what I do:
1. Raw natural Shea butter (rich in vitamin E, helps repair and soothe skin)
2. Neosporin (not neoprosone, diff. product) or
3. Or Natural Aloe Vera gel
4. and an ice pack used throughout the day with the following mentioned above can help too (some cubes in a ziplock bag works well)

Thses help calm some of the redness, reapply throughout the day. Cut back on using products to only a few times a week until the dryness ends, your skin needs time to heal. Instead you can rinse it with luke warm water. Exfoliators such as scrubs, retin-a, etc can irritate and dry the skin is sometimes, and in order for the condition to improve you'll have to minimize for a few days to using the f&w soap once a day or once everyother day. But can still continue using a gentle cleanser with soft wash cloth.

But, do not scrub your skin, be really gentle and continue using sunblock high in spf before going out to help avoid the situation becoming worse. If your skin is peeling, do not pick at the peeling skin, let it come off naturally on its own. This is for the best because your skin is healing underneath and the scaly skin on top is its protective barrier until all healed and back to normal, so let it peel off naturally and when you lightly rub it with warm water and a wash cloth. If you peel or tamper with it, you may prolong the healing process. Thus prolonging your lightening progress. If you do this, then your skin should return back to normal. But, depending on how much of it you were using you'll have to cut back a bit so that you still receive the lightening, but help decrease your chances of having your skin go through burns, irritation, and hyperpigmentation if you minimize early.

Well just recently I experienced some REALLY dry skin from using this exfoliating soap. REALLY REALLY dry. So I started using 100% raw shea butter on my face to get rid of the dry marks.

Because Is tarted to get these dark patches on my skin, probably from the drying of the skin.

It's good that your using the shea butter. I would give the soap a break until your skin is back to normal, as your skin is really dry. Until the skin is nolonger irritated restrain from using retin a, no exfolators, cleansers, or scrubs until your skin heals. Focus on moisturizing often and maybe even use neosporin for the really dry and irritated areas. And rinse skin with water but no cleansers or washcloth for your face right now in the mean time, this will cause more friction to already sensitive and irritated skin.
Once your skin has returned to normal (est. 1-2 weeks rest) then try retin-a 2x weekly. The soap and retin-a seems to be too drying, use a really gentle cleanser like Cetaphil or something similar after your skin has calmed down. What percentage of retin-a do you use and how many times a week?
Applying a thin layer of avacado oil morning and evening can also help nourish and heal the skin.

I don't wear use any retin-a, just exfoliating soap. Also, when I use the moisturizers they really moisturize it to the point where its too oily, since I already have oily skin.

So I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. lol

If your moisturizers contain mineral oil, they can clog the pores on the skin especially on the face. I still use lighteners that contain mineral oil, but just something to look out for. I hope your skin improves KB50MJ, just continue to moisturize, cleanse with warm water then cool to re-close the open pores, and abstain from using exfoliators for at least about a week to give your skin a chance to rehydrate and reurn to normal. This has happened to me before, but usually when I give my skin a break it returns to normal fairly quickly. This is to help avoid any hyperpigmentation.

Doing a series of lactic acid peels can also help to remove tans that may not be the natural skin color of a person. I have started using lactic acid peels but it's too soon to see results yet.
