I thought I would toss this out there, it's a quite interesting video that speaks about skin lightening and it hits several different angles and perspectives, including actual before and after photos from the use of steroid based lighteners that they show. This recording was based in France. Keep in mind before pressing play that there is a revealing photo that is briefly shown of a woman from head to toe exposing what steroid-based lighteners can permanently do to the skin with continued use. In my opinion, this is one of the few reasons of why skin lightening is looked down upon to such a high degree because there are a vast amount of manufacturers and distributors who are still producing products that contains steroid and mercury as its active ingredients, hydroquinone not being properly used as instructed, and large amounts of hq are illegally and unknowingly being added to formulas of some products.

Very interesting video. it is a shame that all these experts spend their time putting down all the products being sold under the counter causing all kinds of problems BUT not really trying to give a real solution to what people are trying to achieve. They know it is going to keep happening.

I loved the debate about why people are using these lighteners in the first place and it is clear that no matter how much damage may occur, people are going to keep using products with harmful ingredients. Notice the pressure was primarily on the females to impress their men.

In the show section, I was surprised to see that the audience was mainly white. I don't think I could see any black faces. I would love to know what they thought about the subject.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen it, another video that I think is interesting. I feel extremely sad about the lady who is using products on her boys! Crazy !! Tyra though just winds me up with her attitude !! Again no real solution properly discused for people who still want to lighten

Both videos are interesting. Many people tend to judge others who choose to lighten their skin and only mention the dangerous products, but I didn't recall anyone mentioning any of the safe skin lightening products. I wonder why? Many do not think to consider approaching the root of why people lighten and take it as a grain of salt, I guess thinking that it isn't important. Including close to none mocks the mockers for being hypocritical to their "beliefs".

I can't believe the mom is doing that to her kids, that is no different than a fair skinned parent letting her kids to bake outside all day until their skin is sunburned. She should be charged for child abuse. And Tya is a big hypocrit and her thinking is distorted. Funny how she didn't even speak about how other nationalities including some caucasions also bleach their skin.

Yeah, about the pressures by men of color knowingly or unknowingly for the women to be lighter and fairer is pretty steep. It's even seen throughout the media, dolls, cartoons, ethnic entertainment stations and magazines who may be marketing a completely different product. Same with tanning, yet instead of receiving the negative attention, the attention is more positive.

Well i could be happy with my dark skin but sociaty wont let me so i'm doing what i got to do to fit in.

For many this is what it takes to at the least to not be treated or spoken to in a belittled fashion (minus what we do to achieve results) and at most to receive far better treatment. It's bittersweet experiences.

I think whatever people's choices they choose to make should be a personal choice, and not inflicted on their kids.

That video is disturbing.  I don't know what product they're using, but I do know someone who uses Palmer's Skin Whitnener on their face...and it has somewhat lightened their skin.  The only problem is that their face is now a little lighter than the rest of their body.

Very sad video!!! now they should make videos a bout tanning.

Really good idea, there are so many things that people do and damage their skin even with skin tanning, tanning beds, even "tanning" pills I have recenty l heard of. I believe certain things can be done in a safe and moderate way, and there are extreme cases of not knowing what and what not to use when it comes to tanning and lightening.

Yes it is quite raw. I'm also currently working on a thread about skin tanning, which is has high statistics of skin cancer and will also find a video to match. As theres always a right way and wrong way of acheiving skin tanning and skin lightening.

I think if whatever people do to their skin they should look for healthier alternatives to reach their ideal look that they are seeking to have, whether to be lighter or darker.
