I need someone to help me. I wonder if there will be some kind of chemical reaction using Amlactin (lotion) mixed with MQ and Retin A? Well maybe leaving out the RA but MQ and Amlactin?
I'm thinking that to evenly mix the MQ I could use Amlactin as the base (it gives you the exfoliation that is needed and therefore allow the MQ to penetrate). Let me know what you guys think? I did chemistry in college but I'm worthless. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

So this is what I found about Solage and interactions with other drugs. "Avoid concurrent use with other topical agents causing skin irritation; tretinoin toxicity increases with coadministration of benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and resorcinol; avoid topical sulfur, resorcinol, salicylic acid, other keratolytics, abrasives, astringents, spices, and lime." These are the ingredients in amlactin 12% LA, Water, Lactic Acid Neutralized With Ammonium Hydroxide, Light Mineral Oil, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Laureth-4, Polyoxyl 40 Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylcellulose.
I am not sure about the contraindictations of mixing these two as there are none listed. Hmmm I have to do some more research before attempting something like this, or I could try applying it to my butt!

They stress not to use additional exfoliants, such as they have listed, along with using Solage as Solage is a mixture of Mequinol and Tretinoin (retin-a). As tretinoin exfoliates well on it's own and mequinol will also eventuallyaide in the skin peeling (as well as eventually sting) I would use a moisturizer such as Aveeno or Eucerin. If you do decide to use Amlactin, use it then either in the morning and mequinol/Ra in the evening or vice versa.

"Avoid concurrent use with other topical agents causing skin irritation". Using too many exfoliants such as salicylic acid, keratolytics, abrasives, astringents, spices, lime, benzoyl peroxide (used in acne medications), resorcinol (also used for acne) all exfoliate and assist with removal of the top layer of the skin. Using tretinoin along with these to often may lead to over exfoliation which causes skin irritation, skin thinning, and potenitally causing the skin to become hyperpigmented.

Though, I'm not a chemist. I would suggest to be completely certain, contact them and ask for a more thorough explainations as of why to avoid such interactions.

Thanks GG for the info. I wouldn't use Solage though, I was thinking if there are any possible reactions adding 10% MQ to amlactin. I am still not sure if I would cause my face to blow up!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I guess I will steer clear from mixing the two even though I cannot find any kind of evidence mixing the acid with MQ. I would not mix the RA with that concoction...I would be setting myself up to get blown out of the sky or get bad skin problems! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Ok, I see. lol
Mequinol and Amlactin, I'll do some searching as well and post it here of what I find of any supporting reasons as of why or why not of these two being mixed.

That is strange, guessing it would be helpful if further explained in more detail. Since tretinoin is considered a drug, "coadministration" being "administration of two or more drugs together", or that 's considered therapeutic it seems. I did find this eMedicine link you might have seen explaining some about inflammation with coadministration with retin A, Amlactin is breifly mentioned too [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I know it's written about treating keratosis pilaris, but might be helpful.

LNY, yes I read that article yesterday and found out that mixing MQ with lets say acid will not cause any adverse effects ... well that is what I gather from that. However, there is not much studies on the subject of mixing MQ (without RA) with the lotion amalactin. I thought of incorprating vitab12 cream into the routine but it would definitely be a no no using RA. I quickly tossed that thought. I am still digging around to find out if I can use this lotion to mix the MQ. I am thinking that it might be a good thing substituting it for RA.

Hi Allure, I have phd in chemistry but you really don't need a chemistry expert maybe a pharmacist, someone know about drug interaction.
Anyway here what I think based only on chemistry, I use monobenzone and I think are similar in sort of solublity etc, now I use normal base over the counter stuff but with not of alot of ingredients. now I looked at amlactin ingredients which contain alpha hydroxy which works well with monobenzone but not beta hydroxy so I am guessing it is the same for MQ. Now if you are using that as base with MQ that will be enough to do the peeling, because of the alpha hydroxy but it does not say what percentage is used, depending on the percentage combined with retin a it might be too harsh on your skin.
I think retin a is much better to use as it has been tested to be effective combined with MQ. I personally tried alpha hydroxy with my mono, the results were not that impressive, retin a win hands down. I say use a simple base with not a lot of ingredients, something mild and combine retin a to your regime.
Hope it helps!

Sara, thanks for that. I guess I'd rather stick to RA and MQ mixed then. What is your regime right now? Are you using mono?

I agree, Retin-a may be the best option but good to test perhaps with other retinoids. Perhaps using Eucerin or maybe even Aveeno as the base for mixing.

From reading this study, they mentioned that Retina is more potent and penetrates deeper than lactic acid (knowing the percentage of Ra vs. lactic acid % would be beneficial). I agree, seems as though the mequinol would not be able to penetrate as thoroughly when using lactic compared to the Ra, depending on the strength used.

Well, there are other forms of retinoid you miay can also consider.

GG Eucerin is very good option as a base it has urea which can aid penetration.

Very nice. Since it works well as base for hq, good option for mq too. Sara do you have to mix your mono in a lotion or creme base?

Heres a link of other retinoid types, strength, and product names [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

From weakest to strongest:Retinol
Retinaldehyde
Adapalene (synthetic retinoid)
Tretinoin (or retinoic acid)
Tazarotene (synthetic retinoid)

Yes GG I make my own cream, I didn't use eucrine, because it is expensive, I used something similar with 5% Urea, and I used e45 cream which used for dry skin and itching, and mono does that. E45 was life saver, still experminting with my mix but now I found the perfect mix. will write about it in a thread.

No it does not have vitamin E I hope not lol, it is perfume free cream to treat dry skin, and eczema, it is havey though so you don't need much, I only use 20% of it in my mix.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I use other creams as well, Eucrine is very good option too but I use garnier hydrolock milk, it has 5% urea, only problem it is not perfume free

@Sara - I wish they would market the Garnier Hydralock in the US but they are only selling it in the UK. I read some great reviews on this lotion and would love to try it. Does it smell "overly perfumey?"

Smell not too much, have you tried ambre solaire garnier milk sun block?? same smell, I also liked that sunblock the only one does not make me gray but it has smell.
Shame you don't have them in US, I couldn't find neutrogena sunblock sheer dry in the UK, I heard good things about it.

Sara, I was thinking about using it as a base cream and no MQ is in a gel form - vaseline consistency. I don't have a problem mixing it with creams.

Hey all
I too have questions in regards to mixing.
I took chemistry in high school and I took it in college but all I really know is acid = bad and water = good lol [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
My question would be what kind os lotion should I mix hq with? I shea butter o.k. ?
Should I mix one whole bottle of hq with a whole bottle of retin a and if so is there a particular container I should use? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Thanks to all that answer [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
