I broke down and decided to get Caro light before I deciding to try other methods. When I received the products (5 in all) one tube was oxidized, and another tube was missing some cream though it didn't seem like it had been used. In spite of the dodgy packaging I thought I'll give it a shot and see what happens...wrong move.

I mixed the cream, lotion and tube of intensive oil cream together into a separate container like the other gals. And why not? I hadn't used anything on my body other than a 40% peel in over 2 weeks, or even scrubbing.

After my 3rd day of 2x's a day applications (body only, never on the face)my legs felt like I had goose bumps...that soon elevated to full on hives all over my body, but worst on my legs.Ironically I have seen some decent lightening upon discovering the hives.I also got a cold sore-which I've gotten all my life but- but the timing was impeccable. My skin is certainly not sensitive.Steroids cause inflammation AND suppress the immune system which is what I think is the case here. I'm no chemist but...

I'm somewhat paranoid due to my profession but am aware of risks, so always watch for early signs and symptoms. I have treated patients on dialysis and that's no picnic.
For those of you successfully lightening using Caro light, I would watch for these side effects for they are a big warning sign.

Iam using the lotion mixed with the oil and so far have not noticed any hives. But of course now i will check very carefully. Alot of others from another forum are using it and they too have not reported any side effects. Hope you recover soon

Fizi,

Thanks, it's better than last night but still present.
The oil you are using is the regular or the intensive?

Is that the carolight with a high percentage of hq in it? I think it is made in the Congo. Personally I am scared of a lot of products made in places like that. I know that other countries can have just as bad of products but hearing about the horrors of things like Bio claire totally puts me on guard.

I have never tried carolight but hear that a lot of people are using it at the moment. It has been withdrawn in some countries because they are aware of the higher levels of hq in it than actually stated. So maybe there could be steroids in there too...who knows? If they can't be honest about the hq then what else are they hiding? Good job you stopped before you got any more damage. You may be a bit more sensitive to the product than others. Some poeple may take longer to see adverse reactions if at all. For example some people say they saw stretch marks , bump and skin blackening from Bio clare whereas some did not have the same problem. Here is a link to where it has ben withdrawn because of the higher hq levels. You just need to scroll down. By the way what are you using on your skin now?

@ kim,

Thanks for the informative link. I started my regime on March 30. Using currently:

Likas soap
Glutathione 500mg
Sublingual Glutathione 2000mg
wkly 40-50% LA peels
Se Quiso ( F&F) for under eye circles

Nothing harsh and never any problems before the Caro light. I'm just glad it happened early on. Now on antihistamines to take down the remaining swelling and bumps, itching stated yesterday.

Yes it's from the Congo as it states on the bottle and I suspect there may be other non listed ingredients in there as well, and I have heard a lot of horror stories about the Bio claire as well. Just healing for now hiding out indoors. Thanks for responding though, I know people tend to shy away from scary posts. What are you using?

Sorry to hear what happened. There are so many dubious products out there. Fair and flawless thinned my skin terribly and I later found out it had steroids in it and this was supposed to be a "high" end product. Hopefully the 10% will work better for you. Are you planning on using it on your face?

@ Yogi,

thanks dear, minor setback, could be worse like burnt skin or something. Trying to stay positive.

I remember your warning about Se Quiiso and it did thin the skin around my eyes but truthfully I was using it min 3x's daily. Though the circle have slightly redarkened, I don't hear the "Are you ok, you look ill" comments anymore. But I need something for further orbital lightening ( now that the skin has re-thickened)then maintenance. So yes, to your question, I plan on using it on my face but only once a day & ONLY after a full 72 hr skin test ( reapplying 1x dly for 72 hrs). Some girls to mix themselves which is more affordable I guess but I'm ok with mid range cost if I don't have to mix myself. F&F can break your skin and your pockets if not careful, right?

Good news,

after tons of antihistamines and cortisone creams I've finally seen a hopeful change to the seemingly semi-perm bumpy chicken skin I had after the blotchiness subsided.

Fearful of putting anything but cortisone(for the itch)I pulled out my jar of Carotein cream- NOT to be confused for Carolight for it is acid based w/ no Hydroquinone-and have seen a huge improvement within 3 hrs & and itching is nearly gone now. Bumps have dissipated so greatly my skin feels like it will be back to smooth in a day or 2 at this rate.I guess non abrasive exfoliation was the key.

The HQ 10% is the next step w/ RA 0.1%, lots of patch tests and will keep you all updated once I start.

Thats really great to hear !! I had a similar problem recently and managed to correct it with hydrocortisone and zinc diaper cream. It was scary for a while because I have never experienced anything like that before with the irritation being on my eye area as well as one of my cheeks. I was totally paranoid people were looking at me and wondering what was going on. Funnily enough no one said anything but maybe they were being polite. It is definitely a good idea to do a patch test next time with he 10%. Have you got it yet? What is it like?

Yes I have it, and it arrived with the label marked 20% then crossed out with a pen and then 10% handwritten in ink under the 20%. I'm not having a lot of luck with professional presentation so I hope that's not a bad sign. The consistency is like Carnation's condensed milk. They recommend for wk 1: mix 1 part HQ, 3 parts lotion (Aveeno or Eucerin) only once daily then increase HQ wkly & after 3 or 4 wks then safe 2 use 2xs daily. I mixed in 1 part of my what's left of my Retin A

I've done my first series of tests but no strong odor or burning so far. Increased my LA from 50% to 85% tonight and d**n what a difference. I only left it on for 3-4 mins b/c it was strong & didn't want to risk any burns.I still only use 50% for my face but my Retin A is taking forever to arrive but content w/ the LA, have seen good tan removal this past month w/ the 40% & 50% on legs.

Do you have the HQ 10& also? What is start color & goal?

The label being corrected sounds a bit strange as well as looking unprofessional Hopefully it is not a sign of things to come. It is really hard to get a decent product that does not make you constantly worry about the price, what is in it or how it has been handled.
It gets recommended a lot that peels can be great for exfoliation and really removing the permatan. You just have to get the right level to avoid causing darkening but it sounds like you have it all sussed.

I have never tried the 10%, only because I don't know how I would maintain once I stopped. I have used products before that really lightened me and then I darkened rapidly once I stoppped, because it gave me terrible acne like spots. It was really awful to loose the light colour but my skin looked horrendous . So for now, I am using Obgai (4%) and nadinola (3%). I am terrible at working out shades but I would say that I was brown and now I have lightened to a light brown. Sometimes I think I even look quite pale but then on other days not so much lol. It is so funny how it can go up and down. How long are you planinng on using the 10%? Is it just to remove a permatan or do you want to go lighter than your natural colour. I guess if you are removing a tan then it will be easier to maintain, if you take a break or stop

I started like an Ananda Lewis complexion then got to Toni Braxton's current shade with just Glutathione vitamins. Not huge difference but my friends noticed. My goal would be a tanned Jennifer Lopez.
I plan to use the HQ for a for a few months only. Since I'm doing pretty good w/ the peels & gluta I'm using the HQ to get to go beyond my natural shade. I'm hoping peels and glutathione would help w/ the maintenance but I do fear losing the results. I also have a bunch of MQ coming and would alternate. Acne is a major fear, Isis pharm claims to have a natural lightener for maintenance. But I'm looking for more natural methods if possible. How long have you been in the process?

Ive been using the hq 10% for over 2 weeks, i have notice a big color change in my face! somewhere between 2-3 shade difference, but on my body i can only see slight change Sad But im sticking to my regimen!! religiously! Im thinking of starting to use the chemical peels on my body....@ Lilikoi....have you tried the TCA peels yet??

TCA peels are dangerous territory for brown skin. I'm like Toni Braxton's complexion so that's brown enough to have to be extra careful. The 85% LA is so strong I could feel the acidity -almost like peroxide- in my very palms. I'm not in big hurry, so going kinda slow but after my setback I'm extra paranoid.
What's your color and goal?

@Lilikoi.....Right now im more like morris chestnuts color...my goal is around Halle Berrys color. I mix my hq myself, i like knowing what products are in my mix, and plus its not hard, and my strong nursing background doesnt hurt either (helps me with measurements, etc...)But The things ive been reading about the Tca peel makes it sound kinda scary! I have a friend at work who uses it, but in small amounts and shes only using it on certain spots on her skin. But i dont think im gonna go there, ill start with the glycolic acid peel. So the Glutathione vitamins have proven to really assist in your change, huh. Im gonna look into those! Im sorry to hear about your set back, i hope you start to feel better soon luv!!

Wow you're skilled to be able to mix your own! Wish I could but I sucked in nursing school (on round 2 of taking my boards lol!) I even read about a bad case of major blisters (b/c the skin was too dark)from TCA. My friend is Morris C. complexion too and started taking the Gluta 500mg + vit c 1,000 mg too and I saw a glow and a bit lighter color on her in 2 wks.
Thanks, I'm totally back to normal now thanks to acids. BTW, I just moved to FL and its hot as the devil here, I prefer the north.

@ Lilikoi, I agree that it does not sound right that you received an altered labeled product rather than being offered something that had the correct details. Who knows they may have ran out of the 10% and sent you the 20%??? Does not really make sense and seems very poor in terms of customer service if only for the lack of confidence it gives the purchaser. I know Enticing has really sung the praises of the company and in all fairness he says he has seeen results with it but it all sounds rather odd. I really look forward to hearing how you progress with it and how you maintain. Some people decide to continue using the lightener maybe a couple of days a week if they start to see their progress going backwards.

@ blackgirl, I agree that TCA may not be tolerated well for black skinned individuls. I like it for small areas but would be hesitant to use it on large areas. For that lactic or glycolic would be preferable, starting at lower percentages and working your way up

@ Rainbow

To be honest I've been slow in getting onto a complete regimen -other than my glutathione- and went on a regimen frenzy buying MQ,HQ,Retin A,Carolight and Carotein. I bought all this crap not even having a clue what I'd do first. So now I have an mountain of products I'm going to stick with the HQ/Retin A for few mo then switch over to MQ (assuming I'll have results by then). So for now I'm just trying to get the measurements right so I don't end up throwing tubes away like before.
Since HQ isn't recommended for long term use,I wanna be ready when I have to switch (either for further lightening or maintenance.
There are some other users on Skintalk -including darker Fitz 5 & 6 complexions- that have had some great results. The unknown about long term MQ is still a mystery to me but if you're already lightening then hopefully you won't have to wait to see such results. There's powder form and utube, I got mine from Goldapharm in tubes, stinks like h*ll though.
