I read a post before, but now i cannot find it. I want to know where to buy lactic or glycolic acid at a good price. There was a post that included information about where to buy, they said you have to know how to use it b/c it comes with no instructions, but you get a lot more for your money.

Thanks

This lactic acid has become quite popular recently due to the low price for a large quantity. Here is a link for anyone interested.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I believe the caution is due to the high perecentage. Most people start peels off at much lower concentrations, some at 25 -30%. This particular acid peel will require dilution with distilled water in order to make it a lower and therefore safer concentration.

Lotion Crafter does have some great prices for body peels. I agree with Maharani, start with a low concentration by diluting it. I believe their lactic acid comes at 88% strength, which should be diluted and will also last longer.

I would start at a low 20%, you might be able to find it on ebay or amazon.

So, how do I mix it with the distilled water? Just as some in a bowl with water and apply to my skin??? And then what? Do I leave it on or wash it off? Aslo, do I need to apply something afterward?
Thanks

First and foremost, you must perform a patch test to test your skin tolerance to it. Apply your diluted mix to an inconspicuous area like under your chin, behind your ear etc. For the body you can apply your patch test to the wrist. You then need to neutralise and then wait 48 hours to see how your skin has reacted to the acid.

The peel should be applied to thoroughly cleansed skin using a gentle NON acidic cleanser. The skin should then be thouroughly rinsed and very gently dried, making sure that the skin is completely dry before proceeding. Some people then apply witch hazel to remove any excess oils from the skin, but I personally don't. You can pour your acid into a clean small glass or bowl and add your required distilled water in order to attain the concentration you want. You can use a brush, gauze or cotton pad to apply the solution. Some prefer the brush as less of the solution is soaked into it and therefore less of it is wasted. Choose whatever feels more comfortable for you. For the face, start your application from the forehead working down, avoiding the eyes, lips and nostrils. Some like to apply vaseline to these areas to protect them, but if you are careful, may not be necessary. It is crucial that you time your application and "leave on" time. For the first application this should be NO MORE than 2 minutes. Please check this very carefully. You don not want to overdo it and cause any burns and possible scarring. If at any time , you experience an intense burning sensation then neutralise immediately.

Make sure you have your neutralising solution ready. You can buy this but you can also make your own using 1 tablespoon of baking soda added to a cup of cool water. For larger areas you can increase each quantitiy as necessary. Apply your neutralising solution and then wait a minute and then repeat. Then gently rinse thoroughly with cool water. Dry gently. I have used peels where they stated that it was perfectly fine to neutralise with just plain water. I guess that this is more convenient for larger areas. As this is your first time using peels, I would definitely recommend using the neutralising solution. In general, It is preferable to apply your peel at night.

It is entirely up to you if you then wish to apply a gentle moisturiser to you skin afterwards. Some like to use oils, like sweet almond, jojoba instead. You MUST NOT USE any AHA, BHA or retinoid products for a few days after the peels. And SUN protection is a MUST as your skin is more sensitive to the sun now and must be protected. I would also recommend that you stop using your RA a few days before the peel as well.

As your skin adjust to the peel usage, it is up to you if you then wish to increase the timing of the application. Just listen to your skin and make sure you time yourself carefully.

As this is your first time. I would recommend that you try the peels on a small area, till you get more confident with it and this should help to avoid any mishaps. This is STRONG stuff and should be used with caution.

If anyone wants to add any other suggestions to this or I have missed anything, please do post below.

Alizee, you don't have to be leery about acid peels, the results are awesome - you will have a couple of minutes of burning/tingling sensation but after...peel like a few days and beautiful, smooth skin is revealed!

I know they give great results when used properly but I suppose the idea of acid. Being put on my skin just makes me uncomfortable lol. I know it is not acid as in it won't eat through my skin lol

Gosh, if I hadn't already been a peel user, I think I would have all sorts of ideas conjured up by now ladies !!! LOL

Alizee love, trust me when I say, when used correctly and with proper care and maintenance, carrying out peels can be invaluable. I would recommend to anyone who is a tad cautious about trying it, that they should consider applying it to tougher areas like the knees and elbows and then see how good it can be. Even if you never use it on your face, it is great for the body.

Maharani, have you ever tried the tca peel or la with lotion mix? I want to make my own tca latte but cannot find any information on how to mix my latte. It is supposed to be easy but cannot get the right info. I have used the tca latte already (already made by Julie from perfect complexions) and it was really great. My pores were minimized and my face was so smooth....hmmm gotta find the right mixture for this concoction.

Sorry never heard of tca latte. I have been reading about people adding lactic acid to regular lotion to improve the condition of the skin. Is it anything like that ?

Yes, something like that. The tca is mixed with cream and can be used every 3 days or so. The peeling is not that bad as using acid itself.

Hey guys, I need your help. I want to lighten my skin by 2 shades (and just have radiant skin and overall glow - body and face) in about 4 months. Is that long enough?? And about the peels, what good do they do? Would love to try them? Please help Wink

Thanks,

Porcelain, Welcome. In my humble opinion 4 months of consistent application of whatever product you are using with ra can work. What is your current color? For some people it takes longer than that, again it depends on what you are using, how consistent you are with it, maintaining (using sunblock or just avoidance of the sun) and exfoliating. I have had great results with MQ and ra (but of course I will not suggest that this is the route for you). You know your skin better than anyone else and what most of us do is experiement. There is a thread on the forum that speaks about the best lighteners, maybe you want to check that one out. HQ4% and ra is great too. Nadinola, I have heard things about it as well. Peels are great just before starting a lightening regimen mainly because the product will absorb better thus getting better results. Many people including myself have done peels because of the smooth skin that is attained. There is a downtime of 1-2 wks depending on how strong the peel you are using. There are different strengths..lunchtime (no downtime) medium and deep. Again you need to decide which would work for you. Trial and error basically. Good luck!
