Thanks for the link to the UK article. What a disgrace! That cheerleader is stunning! A real beauty. I was hoping that her mates would support her & refuse to perform. That has happened elsewhere in discrimination cases. In N.S. an allegedly gay teen wore a pink shirt to school & got insanely bullied. The other students made a statement by ALL wearing pink shirts. I've seen this type of support in racism cases too. I hope the cheerleaders sue the Bejezus out of the organizers & flatten them economically!

I do believe that for the most part, the tone of your skin is not the main focus as to whether you can achieve here. And I have never felt that the colour of my skin was any sort of barrier. I have worked hard, been instilled with good manners and consider myself as someone who is nice to be around and hence the world in which I have worked has always had open doors to go as far as I want to go.

It is in for some, but honestly if you came to the area of London I live in, "pasty" complexions are not desired. As soon as the sun comes out, all the clothes come off too. People are trying to suck up as much colour as they can, be it through the sun or from a bottle. They are happy and willing to sit in a dog poo infested park, if needs be. You only have to look at the amount, that as soon as the school holidays arrive, head off for areas like Spain, south of France etc in the pursuit of sunshine. Heaven forbid they come back without some colour. There is an area in Essex, which I will not name in case I offend, but every single lady and even the guys are orange with fake tan.
This is one of the reasons that I would really feel awkward putting an umbrella up in London. No one seeems to get that even a person of colour should be protecting themselves from the sun. It seems that there is generally more thought to protecting your skin from the aging effect of the sun but less for the tanning effect.
MAHARANI wrote:I have to agree that for some darker tones tanning seems to give an ashy tone and somehow the skin seems to loose it's radiance. It may not have the same glow that someone of a lighter complexion may see when they tan. I guess those lighter skinned individuals, who have a problem with darker tones not wanting to tan, possibly have the same mentality of some causcasians who believe that darker skin should have absolutely no problems in the sun as they already have some built in protection.
hahaha!! congratulations Maharani!!!!
But I think people need to wise up to the fact that regardless of whether you choose not to tan, be it in order to maintain or lighten your complexion, we all need some sort of protection. There will come a day when those of us sensible enough to adopt this practice will be grateful that we do as we enjoy the anti aging benefits of it. To h*ll with anyone who doesn't get it, I say !!! I am already reaping the rewards, as today I was refused being able to purchase alcohol for my adopted nanny, as they did not consider me old enough !!! hehehehehehe ........if only they knew. As much as I was miffed, I enjoyed the compliment. Thanks Retin A, vit C, my sun visor and my sun protection !!!
