1 Got myself a new nose !!!!! on Fri Jan 28, 2011 2:43 pm

well as the topic states, I finally decided after a few years debating whether I should, to have ethnic rhinoplasty done.

First off: I am not a self hater. I just wanted to enhance myself. I have quite delicate and small features and I would say that my nose is the only thing that was very slightly out of proportion with my face. I also decided I wanted to get a little more definition, so had the bridge sligtly built up, along with a slight narrowong of my nostrils. It has only been about 13 days and I think the improvement, though quite slight.....My boyfriend actually asked me what I had done.(I didn't tell him beforehand, in case he tried to talk me out of it).....is really lovely. I am really pleased. I may at a later stage go back to have flllers put in to bring up the bridge a tad more but other than that I am over the moon. I truly wish I had done it years ago.

If anyone wants to ask me anything, feel free. Hey, I wish I could have had someone to talk to before I had the surgery. Just had to rely on info from the net and youtube videos.

Wow you weren't joking about going through some changes. lol I totally understand though as a lot of peolep don't like the shape of their nose. I wish mine was a little smaller but I would be scared it would go wrong. Besides I don't have the money for that anyway. How are you now? Did it really hurt?

Well good for you Angeleyes. IT must have taken a lot of courage as how a nose looks can make such a difference to someones face and it is so important to find the surgeon who is going to give you what you want and knows how to work on an ethnic nose. How did you go about finding your surgeon?

angeleyes I am so pleased to hear that you have had a successful rhino. I know a ton of peple who would have theirs tweaked a bit including me but like someone mentioned I would be terrified it could go wrong and then what? It's not like you can cover your face away from the world if you are not happy with how you look. Tell us a bit more about what happened.

I am fine, thanks for asking. To be perfectly honest, it hurt less than I thought but it has been what I call very uncomfortable at stages. So when I had the packs in my nose for the first week, it was hard to breath as I felt totally bunged up. Also having to sleep sitting up was a bit of a strain on my back.

I also had a problem on my first day when the nurse had to change my nose "drip" bandage. I don't know if it is because of the steroids that I have used in the past (unwittingly) or the retin A, but when she pulled it off, a layer of my skin came off and I was left with a graze. Even the surgeon later commented on how thin my skin was Shocked So I would advise anyone usng any product that exfoliates or thins the skin to ask the nurses to take extra care. I also had a rib cartilage graft, which was used to build up my nose and that has given me a tender area just under my boobs. It feels like an ache rather than any really pain.

MY nose at the tip is numb at the moment and when I touch the bridge it has a strange sensation, so when I have tried covering some of the bruising with make up it has been a very strange slightly uncomfortable feeling.

But the whole thing has been worth it, as far as I am concerned and I would still do it again knowing what I know now.

Yes it was full surgery peformed under general anaesthetic. I had open rhinplasty performed which means the area at the base of my nose was cut and then lifted in order for the surgeon to break part of my nose and to put the rib cartilage in place in order to build up my nose.

The results should be permanent though I will not see final results till at least a year as this is approximately how long it should take for all of the swelling to go. Most of the swelling goes at about 2 - 3 months so you get an idea. The tip of the nose tends to be the last place for the swelling to go.

I have to add that I did have non surgical rhinoplasty done a couple of months before the full surgery and this was what prompted me to have the confidence to go all the way. THis entailed having fillers injected into my bridge and a litle into the tip but this would not be able to correct a wider nostril so I decided to go for full rhinopalsty. My surgeon arranged for the filler to be dissolved before surgery.

I have been researchung surgeons that do ethnic rhinoplasty for several years and the surgeon I finally went with kept coming up. I checked over his credentials along with many before and after pics. I met up with him several times and emailed him as well and always felt incredibly comfortable and that he knew what he was talking about and what I wanted.

He specialises in 3D imaging though at the first consultation the machine was not working, but he took digital photos and altered them to give an idea of the final look. I have to add that this is not guaranteed as to what can be achieved but gives the client an idea.

After the consulation he sent me a letter detailing what we discussed and what the proposed surgery would entail in great detail. He also fully explained the possible problems and what to expect

Absolutely correct. I am not going to lie and say I was not terrified about the prospect and the outcome. I might hate it and wonder what the h*ll I had done. Actually a couple of days after surgery my nostrils were so turned up I thought, am I going to end up looking like a pig !!!. Fortunately they have come right down and look normal lol. There are no guarantees but I was willing to take the risk. I had thought very long and hard about it

Oh wow anageleys so much inforamtion. It sounds like you went through a lot. Rib cartilage you say? How have you healed? Has the graze gone and how is the cut under your nose. I always think that there will be a permanent obvious scar with this type of nose job

You know at the time I didn't think it was a lot but looking back it really was. Yes they harvested rib cartilage in order to build up my bridge. I have a small scar just under my breast where this was done. The graze on my face has faded a lot though you can still see it if you look very carefully. However no one else has noticed it thank goodness.

The cut under my nose has left a scar but is only noticeable if you are very close to me. With time this will fade. Considering it has only been a month I am very pleased with it and I know it will only get better. Apparently this area heals very well, my surgeon tells me, and very few people get keloids here. I have been using a scar gel on it from time to time to promote healing but think it should also be left to heal naturally as well.

I was absolutely terrified thinking about what they would say particularly my Mum. I did think that there really was not much of a difference but straight away she said "what have you done with your nose?" At that point I thought do I loook funny, have I made a mistake, but I know my Mum can be a bit funny so take what she says with a pinch of salt.

My Mum must have gotten straight on the phone and spread the word to my sisters because as soon as I saw them they were questioning me and saying why I hadn't said anything. Strangely the sister who I thought would give me a hard time said she was expecting something horrendous and it actually looked very nice. That made my day and even though I am great believer that you have to live your life how you want to, it meant a lot that I had her approval. A few friends have said they didn't see why I needn't to get it done and there was nothing wrong with my nose in the first place.

I still don't know whether I have much swelling as I have not been back to my surgeon yet for my follow up appointment so it may be looking even better with time. I definitely do not have any regrets that I had it done. In fact I wish I had it done years ago

Mum's can really make you feel like that. I fell like I am always trying to please my Mum sometimes. The main thing though is that you are pleased with how it has turned out

Tell me about it !!! Initially I was avoiding my Mum in case she flashed me one of her disapproving looks. Now she doesn't seem to bat an eyelid. I swear she has gotten used to my new nose already. Actually I sometimes forget what the old nose looked like and have to look at old photos. Though I still don't think there is that much of a difference
