Guys,I am confused here.
Some say they used mequinol for lightening.Fair enough...cos even if you have to depigment,you sure will lighten.
But i want to know exactly what is is for.
Lightening or Depigmenting?
Do you get patches when you use it?
How long do you use it to see results?

There have been far too few studies about the usage of MQ as a general lightener to be able to give an accurate answer. The main usage of MQ is for the treatment of age spots. In addition to the fact that most studies are regarding the usage of MQ at 2% with Retin A at 0.01%. and this is marketed as a product called Solage. So far, I have only seen this available with a prescription.

Again as far as I know most people, on the MQ regime, are using the Goldpharma, which can only be obtained at 10 - 20 %, not the 2% that has been mostly studied. Some may be diluting it or using it at that percentage along with RA. So far, I have only come across one person who has said they got spots from using it and if my memory serves me, correctly, they may have been using the 20%. . There has been some indication that using the MQ at high percentages, more than 10%, may cause depigmentation.

At the moment, those using the MQ have generally reported slow progress and nothing dramatic as yet.....only time will tell. Wish I could answer your question with more evidence.

What Maharani has said is true. I also wanted to a*s thatsome have had darkening which is a symptom of ochronosis, I may have spelled that wrong, and is more common with very dark skinned people and those living in Africa. MQ is a dipigmentating agent that works very slowly and should be used with caution, this is medicine and should be researched first and then a decision made on if a person wishes to use it.

ochronosis usually occurs from long term usage of lightening agents including HQ, but ths tends to also be associated when other ingredients like mercury have also been applied and where inadequete sun protection and exposure is also a factor. The skin may take on a blue black appearance. It is fairly rare though.

It may be rare but I know it is something to look out for when using lightening products and I believe it is more common in African countries which is why some have suggested expose to direct and very strong sunlight may cause this.

I'm just thinking BC may cause this as I've read some real horror stories about them.
