I wonder what causes my toenail fungus. I've been cured and it always come back. There must be something that causes me to have this. I've been using Fungusil ever since and I must say it's effective. Should I continue the use even after I'm cured? Thanks.

Edena I am a great believer in always getting professional advice if a condition keeps reoccurring. There may be an underlying factor that requires extra treatment. Good luck

Toenail fungus is a fairly common problem that is seen around the world. The medical term for this problem is onychomycosis. When the toenail gets infected with fungus, it becomes yellow and thick and is disfigured. There are many lines of toenail fungus treatment for the problem. The effectiveness of the various medications depends on the spread of the disease. If the disease is severe, it will take the nail a longer time to recuperate than when the condition is in the early stages.

In most cases it is seen that the smallest and the biggest toe are affected by the problem. Usually the toenail problem is a consequence of warm and moist shoes that are worn for extended and long periods of time. The same shoe is worn day in and day out without being given any time for the shoe to be completely dry. for those that are professionally employed in industries such as fishing industry, where the contact with water and other elements is very high are at a high risk of developing the toenail fungus.

The problem of toenail fungus can rarely be seen in children or adolescents; however the incidence increases, as one grows older. It ahs been estimated that almost 48% of people in the US have the toenail fungus problem or have had it at some point in time. Those that are 70 years and above also have a higher chance of getting the problem of toenail fungus.

The toenail fungus is also found abundantly in locker rooms and shower room floors and can easily spread from one person to another easily. Also those that wear nail polish on a regular basis may be infected with the problem as well. Those that have preexisting and debilitating diseases such as diabetes or HIV or an auto immune problem are at a higher risk of getting this problem.

When the nails are infected with the toenail fungus problem, then they can become thick and discolored and there would be a foul smell coming from the toenail. If proper Toenail Fungus cure is not taken and the condition becomes severe, then it can also become quite painful for a person to walk or even stand. This infection can also spread to other mails or even other parts of the body.
